gr88.com
Posted by orange in Poker stuff on February 15, 2010
This will be the only post on this blog promoting a new poker site I’m semi-working for now.
is a skin of the MERGE network…some of the common skins include Carbon Poker and others.
I’m working now as a middle man/rep between 2+2 and gr88, and I’m hoping to promote their site.
If anyone has any question(s) regarding gr88.com, let me know. If you want to sign up for rake back there through me then contact me and I’ll give you an hour or two of free coaching. PM or message or whatever me at 2+2 or DC or wherever.
This (and another page) will be the only time I’ll spam my blog with something like this, I don’t want it to be a super clogged blog filled for commercial enterprise…I hate reading blogs like that.
Hate of the week 2/11/10
Posted by orange in Uncategorized on February 11, 2010
So I’m a pretty bitter person. People who know me personally can attest to this. There are alot of things I hate…this probably isn’t the best place to publicly voice my opinion (I should probably be more politically correct but fuck that, this is my blog and I’ll rant on what I damn well please).
I feel like I’ve been a bit sappy on this blog and not really true to form. So here, I’ll start now…hopefully I can make one of these a week to show you what a bitter angry man I am.These will all be uncensored and highly offensive, so if you’re a weak pussy then don’t read on from here. I’m guessing this column will be fairly offensive, insulting other sexual preferences, races, etc, so don’t read this if you’re easily offended.
HATE OF THE FUCKING WEEK- TV PERSONALITIES
I will discuss all people on television I hate. I don’t watch alot of programs these days but meh…
1- RANDY RETARD JACKSON-

So I watched American Idol the other day (I take that back, I was sitting on the couch with my mom and sister and they were watching it, I was browsing the internet) when retard Randy comes on. For those of you who don’t know, Randy Jackson is a judge on American Idol. There are many, many things I hate about Randy…I think what pisses me off is him saying shit like “man…I jus’ wasn’ feelin’ it dawg…just not you!” Oh shut the fuck up Randy, this white pathetic singer is no more your “dawg” than Dr. Dre is.
Here is a clip of idiotic gangster talk from Randy-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrnEkwyeq4Q
His criticisms make me sick. I don’t know shit about the music business (or the evaluation thereof) but WTF is this moron trying to say? Here is another retard clip from him - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPY9U3me0Rs&feature=related
Not that I even really watch American Idol…but lord have mercy, Randy Retard Jackson is a dichotomous freak, edging on both the gangster/ebonic talk and expert, eloquent professional. PICK A DAMN SIDE RANDY YOU SUCK ASS AT BOTH.
2- TODD MCGAY

What the hell is this guy even saying? Obviously NFL draft pick analysts have a pretty tough job and it’s a pretty inexact science….but McGay takes it to a new level. For those who don’t know, he’s a guy who analyzes the NFL draft, along with Mel Kiper Jr., etc. With that said, this guy just pisses me off to no end (And no, it’s not because he hates my bff Tim Tebow either). And I guess he’s paid to create refreshing new drafts, against the grain…but jesus, his last mock was just ????
#1 Rams take G. McCoy, 4 tackles in the first 8 picks (this class doesn’t even have many must-take OT either)…???
Whatever, if he’s right, I guess I’ll have to eat crow. McShay can go suck a dick though, I’m tired of listening to him and Mel Kiper cry to each other.
Link- Todd McGay is a scam
3- Nancy Grace

I shouldn’t even really have to say anything about this lady. She’s a self righteous bitch who thinks she’s the defender of justice once her fiancee or someone got murdered. This lady spouts on and on, lord have mercy…sometimes I wish she’d just shut her trap and go eat a dick or something instead. I see my hatred is shared as well, seen here- http://nancygracemustdie.com/
She’s just idiotic and irrational, like most women are. She’ll see an offender or something and go off on him because she was personally affected by a similar crime in some way shape or form (or they somehow conflict with her moral values). Another hilarious post here- http://johnhgohdecommentator.wordpress.com/2009/02/17/nancy-grace-is-not-squeaky-clean/
God I hate you Nancy Grace.
I was going to write one on gay fashion designer “experts” but I’d probably be stepping over the line so whatever. I’m still hesitant to post some of the true bitterness here that I have, so you’ll have to make do with this. Speaking of fashion “experts”, how the hell do you become an “expert” at critiquing fashion? Seems idiotic to me. Who the hell cares if Halle Berry is wearing one strap or two? What’s the fuckin difference? Who cares if so and so wears a necklace with her dress? wtf? Some of those freaks piss me off so bad when they spaz out over “bad” fashion…then again, I’m a guy who wears jersey shorts and a beater 24/7 so what the hell do I know ? (yes, I’m a redneck).
Shady Business
Posted by orange in Poker stuff on February 6, 2010
Poker is one shady ass business sometimes. Most often the game is clean (unless you’re playing someone with multiple accounts or superused or what have you), but the dealings outside the table are can be really shady.
This post is mainly inspired by this thread on 2+2- Jason Ho, scammer, etc…
Cliffs: a guy basically exploits people by offering them multiple hours of coaching, staking, etc. He tries to get people to “invest” in his business (asking for amounts up to $100,o00) at times…or he’ll string potential victims along, asking for more and more money.
The internet poker world is one shady ass place sometimes. You never really know someone. Sure, the chances of you getting abducted and raped is pretty slim if you’re meeting other poker players for the first time (in real life)…but other alternatives can happen (such as getting scammed).(Some friends of mine stayed in Thailand for a while in a house, only to get scammed by one of the guys there).
And don’t get me wrong- I’ve met alot of poker friends in real life. Most all of them have been pretty down to earth, good people. But even though I have a good experience meeting with someone, it doesn’t mean that they are going to be 100% trustworthy.
When there is readily available, easy money out there (such as in poker), scamming and such is going to happen. People can be real dirtbags, turning even generous offers (such as staking) into a scam. For example:
Staking is a pretty widely accepted practice in the poker world. The goal is to make money (obviously) for both parties. The staker gives the stakee x amount of money to play x limit for y duration, often splitting all profits at a certain percentage. Because the staker believes the stakee can make money, it’ll be a risk he’s willing to take (and the staker usually eats the loss if the stakee loses).
Instead of trying to get better and take coaching/etc, the stakee will just take the money and run. All that’s left is the staker putting the name out there, knowing that he’ll probably never see that money again. (obviously, it depends). You’ll see problems such as this -http://www.stevenwareisathief.com/
Anyways, yeah. I’ve even heard alot of stupid stories like a kid who played HU w/ a random reg on FTP, asked the guy for a trade. The guy said sure. The kid sent his roll over to the guy on FTP, and guess what? The guy obviously ran away, never to be heard from again.
Maybe it’s just Darwinism…the stupid people lose their money in manners like this…but good, smart, decent people lose money as well in the same manner. (Though, not giving money to a stranger, but someone you potentially know as an investment). It just sucks how often these stories come up…people have no sense of loyalty or morals.
The coaching thing is pretty bizarre too. One guy in the first Jason Ho thread talked about how he continuously gave money to Jason Ho on the trust of Stoxpoker.com. Obviously we’d love to think that everyone is completely legitimate, but it’s not always the case. Luckily, it looks like stox is going to make good (or at least attempt to) with some of the damaged parties.
So yeah…I dunno. I guess you never really know someone, no matter how much you talk to them on AIM or Skype or message boards or what have you. Money can change people, sometimes for the worst…people get desperate and are willing to sell all morals/values for just a few dollars.
When making investments, make sure you try to get references. Try to find out how good of a moral character that person has. Alternately, when one is looking for a coach, make sure you do some background checks on him or her…Make sure he has solid references and good results (and results don’t necessarily have to just equal huge amounts of money won, but successful students…sometimes the best players don’t make the best coaches).
Do your research. Don’t be a sucker.
mmmmm

Thought I should share some progress on some of my goals of late. That is, after all, the purpose of this blog (to keep me accountable).
-Workout/diet stuff- Pretty good. I have a workout prop with a friend and have to go 5 times a week. I’ll probably take my first break today (for the week). I usually do about 2-3 hours of climbing with 20-40 minutes of cardio after (with sauna/hot tub time after). I figure there’s not much else to do so I might as well climb/exercise.
Diet hasn’t been going great but meh…need to work on portion sizing.
Poker- Not really that great, haven’t played as much as I liked nor played as well as I could have. I have a few things lined up (possibly) so maybe I’ll be able to update more when the time comes.
Travel- Still mulling over where I want to go. I finalized a trip to Colorado March 6th-9th, some friends and I are going to Keystone. Kindve generic but whatever…I think I might actually buy some of my own skis/boots this time since the boots from years past killed my feet…but we’ll see.
Reading- It’s been pretty decent thus far. I’ve been reading a few different books of late-

This book is really interesting. It’s a fiction about a bored Psychiatrist who starts to use the die for his decisions in life (and research). For example, he’ll decide that a roll of 1= him being Jesus Christ for a day, 2= him raping his best friend’s wife, 3= he’ll “play” the stock market for x amount of time, 4= he’ll be himself for the day, etc etc.
It’s a really bizarre book but I’ve enjoyed it alot. I tried to apply ‘the dice man’ to my own life with my friends (we were going to roll 1-6 to determine where we were going for our spring break trip) but it didn’t happen. (we had like 1= panama city, FL, 2= vegas, 3= skiing, 4= mexico, etc).
I was debating doing it myself to determine some of my own life decisions for the future but decided against it for now.
Also reading a few other books (‘Trade your way to financial freedom’), pretty good so far, though only in on part one. Still reading alot on trading in my free time, there’s so much information out there. Another book is ‘Under the Dome’ by Stephen King. It’s a bit slow right now but hopefully it’ll pick up.
Traveling- I’m not quite sure where I want to go. I’m thinking South America in about 1.5-2 monthsish. I really need to think more about it though and iron out some semi-details before I go (obviously not all, I’ll do alot of the trip on the fly down there). Definitely want a place with alot of outdoors stuff/hiking/climbing/scuba diving/rafting/etc.
a thought process
Posted by orange in Uncategorized on February 1, 2010
Poker is a strange game, a game that not only changes the material entities of a person (meaning you’re going to win or lose something) but also the mentality in every day life.
I’ve touched briefly on some of these examples. I suppose I’ll ramble a bit more on this subject (and maybe many of you can relate). (This post isn’t meant to make me sound smart or intelligent in any way either, it’s just me elucidating some of these ideas).
In poker, it’s best to always have a reason for doing something. Sometimes these ideas cannot be so easily explained (in the sense that I cannot fully explain some of the mathematical calcs behind my logic, but when breaking it down it is still ‘correct’, so to speak). Likewise in life, it’s usually a pretty good idea to have some reasoning behind a decision (this much should be obvious).
But how far do thoughts of utility and such come into our lives?
I guess in alot of instances, my thought process can be summed up in “is it worth it? Can I make it worth it?” and “is this + expectation?” I’ll explain…
So way back a few years ago, I’m at a bar with my friends. I’m the DD and don’t expect to drink much, if anything. We elect to go to a bar that has a $3 cover. Before I’m even in the door I’m thinking about the cover and how it relates to me in terms of the situation- some questions I might as myself
-Are there other bars that offer the same benefits with no cover?
-What can I expect in this bar that the cover brings? Is it just for the atmosphere alone? Any drink specials?
Above all, I think about how this $3 cover relates to my mood/economic situation. It’s not exclusively the $3 that I find acceptable or annoying, but how much it is in relation to its competition. For instance, if there was another bar that offered the exact same atmosphere/specials as this for $2, I might be a bit angry. Or if I were strapped for cash and needed money badly, that $3 would irritate me (though, if you’re getting super upset over a $3 cover, the obvious answer is to just go to a no cover or drink at home).
Do my thoughts change if the cover becomes $.01 cent instead? At what point does it go to the point where I don’t care in the least? Is $3 below that point?
I suppose it just depends on the situation. I’ve blown alot of money on alot of stupid shit…probably thousands on sushi alone. But when the spending becomes recognizably wasteful, I get a bit upset.
But what can be declared as ‘wasteful’ ? This is where utility comes into play…
(basic description of utility)-
In economics, utility is a measure of the relative satisfaction from, or desirability of, consumption of various goods and services. Given this measure, one may speak meaningfully of increasing or decreasing utility, and thereby explain economic behavior in terms of attempts to increase one’s utility.
I’m obviously not just thinking about the $3 cover itself. More what this $3 cover will buy me.
-Since I’m not drinking, the $1 draws won’t really get me anywhere. My friends expect to pound the hell out of them since hey, they’re $1 and they “have to get their money worth”, utility at work!
-Above all, that $3 will give me the atmosphere…more importantly, interaction with friends. I don’t need to be hammered to have a good time. Would it be different if I were going to the bar alone? Of course it would.
-In other examples, I might justify eating $75 sushi for myself. Are the materials ‘worth it’ so to speak? Of course not. But the taste and enjoyment I gain from eating the sushi outweighs the cost.
Anyways, when I go into the bar…I decide that I’d like to at least get a few $1 draws to justify further that cover. So I do…and drive home safely hours later.
Now, I can already see some people thinking “holy fucking god, what a nit! This guy cries about a lame $3 cover? Live a little!”
Trust me, I spend alot of money on alot of stupid stuff, sometimes without rationalization. I wish I could sometimes just block all of it out…but I’m constantly thinking about stupid shit like this, ways to make my life more efficient. It’s like poker made me a robot, predicated on logic and reasoning. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.
Edit: In Summation:
-People spend money what they want to spend it on…this is fine. I’m not going to judge how one spends his or her money. I spent $300 on an autographed football a few weeks ago out of the blue (with little thought put into it).Oftentimes people will spend money, time, and effort on things which have no rationalization, especially with regards to the big picture. They’ll be in insane debt (huge mortgage or credit card payments or whatever) and continuously spend every paycheck right away.
-The only thing I wanted to say is that when making a purchase or action or whatever, make it for a REASON. Have some reasoning behind it. Don’t waste time or money (so to speak) without reason. A short example from last week:
friends and I went to a karaoke bar. We drove all the way out there to meet some friends of ours. Turns out the bar is packed, there were no seats, etc. My friends (in my car) wanted to drive back home (though, I suspect they didn’t really want to go much to begin with). I felt as if driving out there for nothing was a waste and told them “We can either stay here for a little while or go to IHOP” (to make the trip out there “worth it”, so to speak). They chose IHOP.
